Chelsea will be hoping to end their dismal run of form when they travel to face Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Blues have won just two of their last nine Premier League matches – a run that goes back to late December – and their only two other victories in that time were against Shamrock Rovers and Morecambe in the Europa Conference League and FA Cup respectively.

Head coach Enzo Maresca had downplayed his side’s Premier League title chances when they found themselves in second place in the table in December, but he now faces a battle to ensure they qualify for next season’s Champions League.

At present the Blues sit sixth in the top flight standings and, although fifth place is likely to be enough to qualify for Europe’s top club competition next term, the West London outfit will need to improve if they are going to have any chance.

Away from the action, Chelsea’s policy of signing young players from across the globe looks set to continue.

According to CaughtOffside, the Blues have sent scouts to watch Ajax teenager Jorthy Mokio in action.

Chelsea have signed a number of young stars since Todd Boehly took charge of the club in 2022

The 16-year-old defensive midfielder left boyhood club Gent to join Ajax last summer, and he has since played seven times for the Dutch side at senior level.

The report claims that Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Manchester City and Arsenal have also scouted the teenager this season, however it is the Blues that are showing most interest in him at present.

Deivid Washington, Andrey Santos, Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian are among the youngsters that Chelsea have signed over the past couple of years, and the report suggests that those in charge of the club’s recruitment are hoping to make Mokio their next signing.
