Chelsea produced arguably their best display of the season so far but were held to a 2-2 draw by Arsenal on Saturday.

The Blues took the lead in the first half courtesy of a Cole Palmer penalty, before former Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk doubled their lead after the break.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side looked to be cruising to a huge victory, before goalkeeper Robert Sanchez gifted Declan Rice a goal with a loose pass.

Moments later, Mikel Arteta’s side drew level as substitute Leandro Trossard bundled in Eddie Nketiah’s cross, much to the frustration of Pochettino.

Despite failing to hold on to their lead, the Argentine will undoubtedly be pleased with the improvement that his side have shown in recent weeks.

Having spent around £1 billion since the start of last summer’s transfer window, it appeared that Pochettino was initially struggling to get a tune out of his large squad.

Bastoni has emerged as a target for Chelsea

They have improved in recent weeks, though, but it appears that the former Tottenham Hotspur manager is still keen to add to his squad at the next opportunity.

According to Calciomercatoweb via The Express, the West London outfit are interested in Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni.

The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the best defenders in Serie A over the past couple of seasons, and it appears that Chelsea have taken notice of his impressive form.

Having joined Inter from fellow Italian side Atalanta in 2019, Bastoni has now made 173 appearances for the club in total.

He has won five trophies during his time in Milan, including the Serie A title, and was also part of the Italy squad that were victorious at Euro 2020.

Chelsea have signed a number of central defenders over the past 18 months, including Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi, while Levi Colwill has established himself in the first team having impressed on loan for Brighton and Hove Albion last season.

Bastoni signed a contract extension with Inter last year, but the report claims that the Italian side have not ruled out the possibility of selling him in 2024.
