Chelsea have an extended break before facing Danish side FC Copenhagen in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie next Thursday.

Enzo Maresca’s side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this month and therefore don’t feature in this weekend’s fourth round programme.

The Blues defeated Southampton 4-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League one Tuesday evening, moving them back up into the top four.

That result could prove critical for Maresca by the end of the season, and the Italian will have been pleased with the individual performances of several of his players against the Saints.

Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen produced a fine save in the first half to maintain Chelsea’s lead, having made a severe error in the Blues’ defeat against Villa Park on Saturday.

Now, though, it appears that the West London side are eyeing a move for a Premier League goalkeeper.

As per TBR Football, Chelsea are interested in Brighton and Hove Albion ‘keeper Bart Verbruggen.

Sanchez has been dropped by Maresca after a number of costly errors

The 22-year-old joined the Seagulls from Belgian side Anderlecht in 2023 and has since established himself as the south coast side’s first choice goalkeeper.

In total he has played 54 times for Brighton, keeping 14 clean sheets and conceding 72 goals.

The report claims that Chelsea’s search for a new goalkeeper has lead them to Verbruggen, who has been capped 18 times by the Netherlands at international level.

It is also claimed that the Blues considered a move for the Dutchman in 2023, prior to his move to the Amex.

Parma’s Zion Suzuki and Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi are also said to be of interest to Chelsea, with those in charge of the club’s recruitment are in agreement that signing a new goalkeeper is a priority for the upcoming summer transfer window.

Both Jorgensen and Robert Sanchez have made costly errors this season, with the former spilling Marco Asensio’s winner at Villa Park on Saturday.
