After being banned from signing players in his first summer window, Chelsea certainly made up for that prior to the 2020/21 season kicking off.

The Blues spent over £200million on new players and – until recent defeats against Everton and Wolves – that investment seemed to be paying off.

However, despite having lots of competition for places, it’s reported that Frank Lampard could look to add another big name to his squad.

This player is Bayern Munich’s two-time Champions League and nine-time Bundesliga winning defender, David Alaba.

Alaba has been converted from a left-back to a centre-back since the emergence of Alphonso Davies.

The Austrian has been with the German giants since 2009 and has made over 400 appearance for the club.

However, as reported in the Daily Mail, Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said that he expects the 28-year-old to end his stay at the Allianz Arena after failing to agree a new deal.

As his contract runs out in June 2021, Alaba is free to talk to other clubs from January.

Although it’s claimed that Real Madrid are the favourites, it also states that Chelsea are paying an interest.

The Blues did a similar deal prior to this season when they landed experienced defender Thiago Silva on a free.

And if the Londoners were to entice Alaba – who’s eight years younger than Silva – to Stamford Bridge, it would be seen as another masterstroke from the Premier League club.
