Chelsea linked with shock move for Premier League ‘keeper

England get their World Cup campaign underway on Monday, as they face Iran in the second match of the competition. 

Gareth Southgate’s side have been drawn in Group B and will face Wales and USA as well as Iran.

Southgate will have to make a number of big decisions before kick off, with both Kyle Walker and James Maddison injured and a number of other stars pushing for a starting spot.

One name that will almost certainly be on the team sheet is Jordan Pickford, with the Everton goalkeeper having established himself as The Three Lions’ number one in recent years.

While Pickford is on international duty, the player is being linked with a move away from current club Everton.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are keeping an eye on the ‘keeper with a view to potentially making an offer for him.

The report claims that The Blues are looking to sign a ‘keeper to become the club’s first choice, with Brighton and Hove Albion’s Robert Sanchez another target being considered.

Chelsea have struggled with goalkeepers in recent seasons, with Kepa Arrizabalaga having failed to impress ever since his world record move from Athletic Bilbao in 2018, and Edouard Mendy having also been in poor form this term.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter is believed to be keen on signing a ‘keeper in a bid to rectify their issues, and Sanchez and Pickford are his two top targets.

It is suggested that Potter will use the World Cup to assess Pickford, who was instrumental in England’s runs to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2018 and the Euros last year.

The 28-year-old has 45 England caps to his name, and has made more than 200 appearances for The Toffees.
