Chelsea have been made aware of a possible alternative to target Matthijs de Ligt if they miss out on the Dutchman.

The Blues have been heavily linked with the Juventus man in recent weeks, but German champions Bayern Munich are also interested and could still lure the 22-year-old to Germany.

If Bayern are successful in landing the Netherlands international, they could put current centre-back Dayot Upamecano up for sale, according to 90min.

The report claims that Chelsea have been made aware of the situation, and could move for the France international if they miss out on De Ligt.

Upamecano’s future at Bayern could depend on their pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt

A move to Germany is currently believed to be much more likely than a move to Stamford Bridge for De Ligt, so Thomas Tuchel may have to start looking at alternatives.

If De Ligt does move to Munich, he would most likely be partnered by Lucas Hernandez at the back, and Upamecano is unwilling to sit on the bench for the majority of the season.

One positive for the Blues would be the price tag, with the Frenchman likely to cost around half of what De Ligt would set them back.

Chelsea are in need of at least two central defenders having lost both Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger at the end of the season.
