Chelsea have reportedly made Italy international Leonardo Bonucci their new number one transfer target this summer, according to the Daily Star.
The defending Premier League champions, who currently sit tenth in the standings following their most recent 2-2 draw against West Ham United at Stamford Bridge last weekend, are in the market for a new centre-half this summer to replace veteran defender John Terry.
The 28-year-old, who has 54 international caps for his country and is set to star for Italy at the Euro 2016 Championships later this year, has scored two goals and provided one assist in 42 appearances in all competitions for Serie A giants Juventus so far this season.
Bonucci, who is thought to be rated at around £25m, is a firm favourite of Italy’s national team coach Antonio Conte, who is tipped to replace interim boss Guus Hiddink at Stamford Bridge this summer as the Blues’ permanent manager.
Meanwhile fellow centre-half Terry is set to leave Chelsea, with the 35-year-old out of contract come the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
The report will come as great relief to Everton supporters after the Blues made three failed bids for England international John Stones last summer after identifying the 21-year-old as an ideal long-term replacement.
