Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri admits he regrets not signing Argentina international striker Gonzalo Higuaín this summer.

The Premier League side, who defeated Huddersfield Town 3-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium in their 2018-19 league opener on Saturday, had been linked with a mega money move for the former Juventus hitman this summer.

But, Higuaín opted to join AC Milan from Serie A champions Juve on a season-long loan deal, with the option to make the agreement permanent.

The 30-year-old, who has 75 international caps for his country, scored an impressive 55 goals in 105 games overall for Juventus following his arrival from Napoli in July 2016.

Gonzalo Higuaín has joined AC Milan on loan from Serie A champions Juventus.

Higuaín has netted 282 goals in 547 career appearances in all competitions for River Plate, Real Madrid, Napoli and Juve overall.

New Blues boss Sarri, who succeeded Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge this summer, admitted he would have relished a reunion with the Argentine forward.

He told Sky Sports Italia, via the Daily Star, “Higuaín? It’s a little regret but in the end everyone after the market has a few little regrets.”

Higuaín was reportedly in talks to join Chelsea this summer, but instead sealed a switch to the San Siro, after claiming he felt more wanted in Milan.
