Chelsea are back in action when they host London rivals West Ham United on Monday night.

The Blues were defeated 3-1 by reigning Premier League champions Manchester City in their last outing, meaning they have now won just one of their last seven matches in the competition.

Head coach Enzo Maresca will be desperate to see his side improve on Monday, but the Hammers have improved of late since the appointment of former Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

Away from the action the January transfer window is fast approaching its climax, and it appears that one of Chelsea’s midfielders is getting closer to a move away from the club.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Italian side Lazio are working to finalise a move for midfielder Cesare Casadei.

The journalist claims that Lazio are working on a permanent deal for the 22-year-old that would cost around £10.8 million and would also include a sell-on clause.

Casadei could soon be on his way back to Italy

Casadei joined the Blues from Inter Milan in the summer of 2022 but has since failed to establish himself as a regular starter at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian has played 17 times for the West London side across all competitions, as well as spending time on loan at both Reading and Leicester City.

Despite working under Maresca at the Foxes last term, Casadei has played just six times so far this season for Chelsea and is yet to feature in the Premier League.

While no agreement is in place between the two clubs or between Lazio and the player, Romano claims that the Serie A giants are hoping to agree a deal and finalise the move before the end of the current transfer window.

The Italy Under-21 international is contracted to Chelsea until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
