Chelsea will be hoping to return to winning ways when they welcome Sheffield United to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Blues have endured a difficult season so far, winning just five of their 16 Premier League games to leave them 12th in the top flight table.

Last time out, Mauricio Pochettino’s side were defeated 2-0 by Everton at Goodison Park, and in the wake of the loss the Argentine admitted that his side might have to once again delve into the transfer market when the window reopens in January.

Chelsea have spent more than £1 billion since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took charge of the club in the summer of 2022, but the Blues’ performances this season have left plenty to be desired.

With that in mind, Football Insider reports that the West London club will look to complete three new signings during the upcoming January transfer window.

The report claims that those in charge of the club’s recruitment are hoping to complete as many as three signings, in a bid to bolster Pochettino’s side ahead of the second half of the season.

A new goalkeeper is said to be among Chelsea’s prime targets for the upcoming mid-season window, as well as a new striker.

Chelsea could look to sign a new goalkeeper to compete with Robert Sanchez

Spaniard Robert Sanchez, signed from Brighton and Hove Albion over the summer, has started all of Chelsea’s league matches so far this term, but suffered an injury during the defeat to the Toffees.

Chelsea are therefore keen to add another ‘keeper to their squad, and a new striker will also be targeted as Pochettino’s side continue to struggle in goal.

Nicolas Jackson was signed from Spanish side Villarreal over the summer, but the Senegal international has scored just seven times in 18 appearances across all competitions – three of which came against nine-man Tottenham Hotspur last month.

Those in charge of Chelsea’s recruitment will therefore look to add additional firepower to Pochettino’s squad, and it is claimed that there are currently three strikers that have been shortlisted by the club.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Napoli star Victor Osimhen, and Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez are all said to be of interest to the West London club.
