Chelsea are reportedly ready to hijack Manchester United’s summer raid for Italy youth international starlet Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to the Daily Star.

The defending Premier League champions, who currently sit tenth in the English top-flight standings following their 2-2 draw against West Ham United at Stamford Bridge in their last outing, have joined their rivals in registering an interest in signing AC Milan’s highly-rated goalkeeper.

The 17-year-old, who has featured for Italy’s Under-21 squad, has kept eight clean sheets in 22 league appearances so far this season for the Serie A giants.

Donnarumma, who has been widely tipped as his country’s next Gianluigi Buffon, stands tall at 6ft 5in.

The youngster only made his first-team debut for the San Siro outfit back in October 2015, since replacing the experienced Diego Lopez between the sticks.

The report suggests that the Blues are ready to offer £30m for Donnarumma’s services as Chelsea fear current number one ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois could be tempted into a move away from the London outfit come the end of the season.
