Chelsea will be hoping to return to winning ways when they face Newcastle United on Monday evening.

The Blues have endured a dismal season so far and currently sit 11th in the Premier League table.

Last time out Mauricio Pochettino’s side struggled to a 2-2 draw against West London neighbours Brentford, having lost to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley the previous week.

Pochettino will be desperate to see his side beat the Magpies at Stamford Bridge on Monday, with Chelsea’s chances of qualifying for any European competition next term fading fast.

In the meantime, it has emerged that the Blues are chasing a La Liga striker.

As per The Telegraph, Chelsea are eyeing a move for Athletic Bilbao striker Nico Williams this summer.

Williams, 21, has been in good form for Bilbao this season, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists.

Primarily a left winger, Williams is also capable of operating on the right and that could appeal to the Blues.

Williams is said to be a target for Chelsea this summer

Those in charge of Chelsea’s recruitment are hoping to sign a recognised out-and-out striker this summer, but they could miss out on top targets due to finances.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko are said to be among Chelsea’s main targets, but the pair could both prove too expensive.

Although Williams is believed to have a release clause in his current contract set at around £43 million, the Spaniard is said to currently earn more than £100,000-per-week after tax.

If Chelsea matched or bettered those wages, it would put the Spain international among their highest earners.

The report also suggests that interest in Williams would cast doubt over the futures of current Chelsea wingers Raheem Sterling and Mykhaylo Mudryk, both of whom have struggled in recent months.
