Chelsea fans will be hoping that new manager Enzo Maresca can bring silverware back to Stamford Bridge during his first season in charge of the club.

The Blues haven’t won a trophy since Thomas Tuchel’s time at the club, but Maresca will hope to end that run having been named as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor last month.

The Italian will officially begin his role as Chelsea’s head coach at the start of July, and it appears that he could be reunited with a player he previously worked with.

As per Argentinian outlet TyC Sports via 90min, the West London outfit are considering a shock move for Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez.

Alvarez is said to be unhappy at Manchester City

The report claims that the Argentina international is not happy with his current situation at The Etihad and is considering his options ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

Maresca was in charge of Manchester City’s development squad before acting as Pep Guardiola’s assistant during City’s 2022/23 treble winning campaign.

Alvarez,24, joined City from River Plate in 2022, arriving at The Etihad during the same transfer window as Erling Haaland.

Since then, Alvarez has largely acted as understudy to his Norwegian teammate, and it appears that he is growing frustrated at his current situation.

In total, the Argentine striker has scored 36 goals in 103 games for City across all competitions, as well as registering 18 assists.

Despite his frustrations, the report claims that Alvarez is keen to stay at City and his preferred solution would be to establish himself as a regular for Guardiola’s side.

He is currently contracted to the Premier League champions until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.

As well as Chelsea, Spanish side Atletico Madrid and French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in Alvarez.
