Club World Cup champions Chelsea will face German giants Bayer Leverkusen in their first friendly of the summer next month.

Enzo Maresca’s side haven’t yet started their pre-season campaign due to their participation in the Club World Cup, which culminated in them defeating Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain in the final.

The Blues will face both Leverkusen and Italian side AC Milan in the build up to the new season, before hosting Crystal Palace on the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign.

Off the pitch Chelsea have ben busy this summer with several new signings having already arrived at Stamford Bridge.

Now, it appears that the West London giants are on the hunt for further reinforcements.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are making progress in their efforts to agree personal terms with RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons.

The Blues have already recruited heavily in attack this summer with Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens all having arrived at Stamford Bridge, but Romano claims that they are now working hard to sign Simons.

The 22-year-old initially joined Leipzig on loan form PSG in 2023 but made the move to Germany permanent in January this year.

In total Simons – who can play in a variety of attacking roles including as an attacking midfielder or on either flank –  has now played 76 times for the club across all competitions, scoring 21 goals and providing 23 assists.

Romano claims that the Netherlands international is keen on the idea of joining Chelsea and is open to the move, with the player’s representatives now in discussions with the Blues with the aim of reaching an agreement on personal terms.

Simons’ current contract with Leipzig is set to run until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, but it appears that he may well be on his way to SW6 this summer.
