Chelsea are reportedly ready to meet Napoli’s asking price for defender Kalidou Koulibaly, as they look to rebuild their defensive line.

The Blues haven’t yet replaced either Antonio Rudiger or Andreas Christensen, who both departed the club at the end of the season, and have been left frustrated in their pursuits of both Jules Kounde and Matthijs de Ligt.

The former looked likely to join last summer but speculation has since cooled, while De Ligt remains a target but looks increasingly likely to join Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Koulibaly could be on his way to London

With that in mind, it appears that Chelsea have been considering a move for Koulibaly, and the Blues would have no problem in paying the defender’s asking price of £34 million, according to Corriere dello Sport via The Sun.

The report suggests that Chelsea could meet the Italian side’s demands in order to begin their summer rebuild of their back line.

Tuchel could still lose both Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta too, which would increase his desperate need for defensive reinforcements.

Koulibaly, 31, has just 12 months remaining on his contract, which is likely to be a significant factor in the Serie A side’s relatively low asking price.
