Chelsea are thought to have identified Argentina international Gonzalo Higuain as a potential replacement for star striker Diego Costa this summer, according to Fichajes (via Daily Express).

The defending Premier League champions, who face Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain inside the Parc des Princes tonight in their UEFA Champions League last-16 first-leg clash, fear their in-form forward could be tempted in rejoining former club Atletico Madrid once the 2015-16 campaign has concluded.

The 27-year-old has scored 12 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions for the Blues so far this season, with Costa impressively netting eight in his last 10 outings for Guus Hiddink’s side.

Meanwhile 28-year-old Higuain, who has 54 international caps for his country, has found the back of the net a remarkable 26 times in just 30 games in all competitions for Serie A outfit Napoli so far this term.

The report suggests that Chelsea are prepared to spend £40m in order to land Higuain this summer, despite the club looking increasingly likely of missing out on qualification for next season’s Champions League campaign.
