Chelsea’s poor run of form continued on Saturday as they were beaten 3-1 by reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.

Enzo Maresca’s side went ahead early on when Nicolas Jackson capitalised on a defensive error to set up Noni Madueke, before defender Jose Gvardiol drew the hosts level at The Etihad.

Erling Haaland then put City in front after the break, and the Norwegian then teed up teammate Phil Foden to score City’s third and ensure the Citizens took all three points.

The Blues have now won just one of their last seven Premier League matches and have fallen from second to sixth place in the table during that period.

With that in mind, it appears that those in charge of the club’s recruitment are trying to resolve their defensive issues.

According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea have registered their interest in Feyenoord defender Davud Hancko.

The 27-year-old centre-back joined Feyenoord from Czech side Sparta Prague in 2022 and has since established himself as a key player for the Rotterdam side.

Hancko has emerged as a target for London sides Chelsea and Tottenham

In total he has played 120 times for the club across all competitions, but his performances haven’t gone unnoticed and the report claims that both Chelsea and London rivals Tottenham Hotspur have asked about the possibility of a move for the player.

Italian side Juventus and Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid are also both credited with an interest in the defender, however the report claims that Feyenoord are unlikely to sell the player during the current transfer window.

It is claimed that the Eredivisie outfit will demand a fee of around £42 million for the Slovakia international this summer, as he has more than three years remaining on his current contract.

Chelsea have struggled with injuries in defence of late, with the likes of Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile currently sidelined.

Trevoh Chalobah was recalled from a loan spell at Crystal Palace earlier this month, but Axel Disasi has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge and the Blues may therefore require reinforcements this summer.
