Graham Potter faces what promises to be his toughest challenge yet as Chelsea boss when The Blues welcome AC Milan to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The Italian champions arrive in London as Champions League Group E leaders, while Chelsea are bottom following a defeat to Dinamo Zagreb and a draw with RB Salzburg.

Potter will be wary of his side’s recent defensive frailty, with The Blues having failed to keep a clean sheet since their 1-0 opening day win over Everton at Goodison Park.

What will be equally concerning for Potter is the form of AC Milan’s forwards, with the Serie A side having scored 20 goals in ten matches so far this term.

Former Blues striker Olivier Giroud has been in good form, scoring five goals, but his teammate Rafael Leao continues to be the star of the show.

Chelsea are believed to be leading the race to sign Leao

The Portugal international has been linked with Chelsea in recent months, and it is now claimed that the London side are leading the race to sign him.

According to Corriere della Sera via The Star, Chelsea are ‘ahead of every other side’ in the battle to land the forward.

Leao, 23, has scored four goals and provided seven assists in nine games this season, and Chelsea will now get the chance to see him in action.

The player attracted interest from a number of clubs over the summer after a superb season during which he scored 14 goals and registered 12 assists but, while Chelsea apparently lodged an informal offer, they ultimately failed to land Leao.

The attacker moved to Italy in 2019, signing from French club Lille for a reported fee of £26.5 million.

The deal that he signed when joining the club is due to expire next summer, although his current employers are believed to be working on an extension.

Milan’s player of the season winner last season, Leao has become a regular for Portugal since making his senior debut in 2021.
