Chelsea boss Graham Potter faces a potential midfield conundrum at the end of this season, with two of his senior central midfielders’ contracts set to expire.

Both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are set to be out of contract at the end of the current season, and it remains to be seen whether or not the duo will commit to new deals with their current employers.

The pair, along with Mateo Kovacic, have established themselves as The Blues’ senior midfielders in recent seasons, although Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher have both been pushing their way into Graham Potter’s plans of late.

With the pair’s contract situations in mind, it seems that Chelsea are considering their options incase Kante and Jorginho were to leave.

According to The Evening Standard, The Blues are interested in Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes.

The Brazilian midfielder has been in fine form for The Magpies since joining the club in January, and his performances have reportedly attracted the interest of Chelsea.

The report claims that Chelsea and Spanish side Real Madrid are both interested in the midfielder, although both clubs are aware that he is likely to prove difficult to sign.

Kante is set to be out of contract at the end of the current season

The Brazilian is contracted to Newcastle until 2026, and club bosses are reportedly set to sit down and discuss an extension with the player that could reportedly earn him £200,000-per-week.

Guimaraes, 24, has made 27 appearances for The Magpies so far, and scored a brace against Brentford earlier this month.

His fine form this term has helped propel Newcastle into the top four.

It is also claimed in the report that The Blues are holding talks with both Jorginho and Kante over proposed contract extensions.

Kante is widely regarded as one of the world’s best central midfielders, but his injury record over the past three years will worry Chelsea and is believed to be one reason why they are only offering the player a short-term deal.

Jorginho, meanwhile, has been linked with a return to Italy in recent months, with both Juventus and Napoli believed to be interested.

Previously, Chelsea have been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham and West Ham United’s Declan Rice in their pursuit of midfield reinforcements.
