Chelsea have signed Charlton Athletic striker Mason Burstow.

The 18-year-old has made his first-team breakthrough with the Addicks this season, scoring six times in all competitions.

Prior to Monday’s victory against Portsmouth, Charlton boss Johnnie Jackson confirmed that Burstow had been left out of his side after he was granted permission to speak to a Premier League club which has now been confirmed as the European champions.

Burstow will immediately return to The Valley on loan until the end of the season.

The teenager, who scored with his first touch as a professional, joined Charlton from Maidstone United in 2020.

Despite the fee not being disclosed, Charlton owner Thomas Sandgaard told the club’s official website that it “was an excellent deal for the club.”

Burstow joins fellow youngsters Dylan Williams and Travis Akomeah in signing for Chelsea in the window after the duo joined from Derby County and Watford respectively.
