Chelsea have reportedly slapped a staggering £73m price tag on Belgium international Thibaut Courtois, according to The Evening Standard.

The defending Premier League champions, who currently sit tenth in the English top-flight standings after Saturday’s 2-2 draw against West Ham United at Stamford Bridge, hope their whopping valuation of their number one goalkeeper will fend off interest from Real Madrid this summer.

The 23-year-old, who has 32 international caps for his country and is expected to star for Belgium in the Euro 2016 Championships later this year, has kept just five clean sheets in 26 appearances in all competitions for the Blues so far this season.

Courtois, who arrived at Stamford Bridge from Genk back in July 2011 in a deal worth around €9m, is thought to be interesting La Liga giants Madrid after they failed to recruit Manchester United shot stopper David De Gea.

The report suggests that the Spanish outfit made an enquiry over the services of the Belgian last summer, but Chelsea responded with their world record £73m estimation.
