Manchester City will be hoping to lift the Champions League for the first time in their history when they face Inter Milan in the final on Saturday.

The Citizens have already lifted both the Premier League and FA Cup this term and can therefore complete a remarkable treble by beating the Italian side in Istanbul.

In the meantime, though, it appears that City could be close to agreeing a sensational move for one of their rivals’ biggest stars.

As per Fabrizio Romano, City have agreed personal terms with Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic ahead of a proposed move this summer.

The Croatia international has been a regular at Chelsea for some time now, but it appears increasingly likely that he could leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Romano claims that the player is keen on a move to The Etihad after a disappointing campaign in west London.

Kovacic, 29, made 37 appearances across all competitions this season but was unable to prevent the Blues from a dismal 12th-placed finish in the Premier League table.

Kovacic looks likely to join Manchester City this summer

In total, the Croat has made 221 appearances for Chelsea since joining from Real Madrid back in 2018, initially on loan before making the move permanent the following year.

Despite that, Romano claims that Chelsea are willing to let the four-time Champions League winner leave this summer.

Talks between the two clubs are set to take place following City’s Champions League meeting with Inter on Saturday.

Kovacic could be one of a number of central midfielders to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, with both Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek also believed to be in talks over permanent moves away from the club.

Loanee Denis Zakaria is also set to return to parent club Juventus after a relatively underwhelming loan spell in the capital, during which he made just 11 appearances all season.
