Chelsea have reached an agreement that will allow Romelu Lukaku to extend his stay with Inter Milan by a further 12 months.

The Belgian striker is currently on loan in Italy after a disappointing return to England last season, but it appears that he could stay with the Serie A side for longer than first thought.

As per The Mail, the Blues have agreed to let Lukaku stay in Italy for a second season, as he has no future at Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku, 29, returned to Chelsea for a club record fee of £97.5 million last summer but struggled in his first season back with the club, scoring just eight Premier League goals.

He also gave an interview to Italian media in which he criticised Thomas Tuchel and admitted his desire to return to Milan.

The player rejoined his former club on loan earlier this month, and it has now been decided that he has no future in west London.

Inter have paid around £7 million to loan Lukaku for the upcoming season, although it isn’t yet clear how much more will be paid if he extends his stay by another 12 months.

Chelsea are unlikely to recoup much of the huge sum that they paid for the Belgian, and could therefore sell him for a reduced fee next summer.
