Ipswich Town will face another tough test when they travel to play Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.

The Tractor Boys were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool on their top flight return on Saturday, despite impressing during the first-half.

Kieran McKenna’s side were perhaps unfortunate not to score before the break, and were ultimately downed by goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah.

Now, it appears that Ipswich are set to bolster McKenna’s attacking options with the signing of a Chelsea star.

As per Fabrizio Romano, the East Anglia side are set to sign Chelsea’s Armando Broja on an initial season-long loan deal.

The journalist claims that the two clubs have reached a verbal agreement over a loan move for the 22-year-old, which will also include a mandatory obligation-to-buy clause if Town avoid relegation at the end of this season.

The newly-promoted side will pay the player’s wages in full until the end of June next year, and could pay in excess of £30 million to sign the player permanently if they avoid the drop.

Broja looks set to spend the rest of the current campaign on loan at Ipswich

The Albania international is set to undergo a medical in the next 24 hours, Romano suggests, before finalising his move to Portman Road.

Broja is one of a number of players to have graduated from Chelsea’s academy into the first team in recent seasons, although he has failed to ever establish himself as a regular starter at Stamford Bridge.

In total he has scored just three times in 38 games across all competitions for the Blues, and he wasn’t included in Enzo Maresca’s squad for Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat against Manchester City on Sunday.

Broja spent the second half of last season on loan at West London rivals Fulham, but failed to find the net in eight appearances for the Cottagers.

Previously, he enjoyed a successful period with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, where he netted 11 times in 34 games, and Ipswich boss McKenna will be hoping that he can rediscover that form when he arrives in Suffolk.
