Chelsea are working on a shock deal for Barcelona’s Memphis Depay, having all but agreed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the Spanish club.

The Blues are on the verge of announcing ex-Arsenal man as their latest signing, with Sky Sports reporting that the player is in London for a medical ahead of a return to the capital.

Thomas Tuchel appears to have finally had his wish granted in terms of wanting a forward through the door, but it now appears that Chelsea are working on a late move for a second attacker.

According to Nathan Gissing, Netherlands international Depay is open to the idea of joining Chelsea, with his representatives working hard to secure a move away from the Nou Camp.

Depay could leave Barcelona in the final hours of the window

It is also claimed that one of the intermediaries working on the deal for Aubameyang is also attempting to push through a deal for Depay, although those involved in the deal face a race against time.

With under two hours remaining before the window slams shut in England, a deal is likely to prove tricky, though.

Depay joined Barcelona last summer from French side Lyon, and has scored 13 goals in 38 matches for the Spanish side since then.

Tuchel has been keen to add a forward to his squad having watched his side struggle in front of goal in the early weeks of the season.

Raheem Sterling is The Blues’ only attacker to have scored so far this term, with their other three goals coming from Reece James, Kalidou Koulibaly and Jorginho.

The transfer window in England closes at 11pm on Thursday evening.
