Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Germany international defender Niklas Sule, according to ESPN FC.

The Premier League side, who currently sit top of the English top-flight standings, just one point ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City following their 2-1 win over Tottenham at the weekend, are understood to be ready to rekindle their interest in the highly-rated Hoffenheim centre-half during the forthcoming January transfer window.

The 21-year-old, who made his senior international debut against Finland in an international friendly back in August, has scored one goal and provided one assist in 12 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season.

Sule, who graduated through the German side’s youth ranks, has caught the eye of Blues boss Antonio Conte as he seeks to add another central defensive player to his playing squad at Stamford Bridge in the new year.

However, the report adds that the Premier League club face competition from defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
