Chelsea are set to rival Liverpool for the signing of MLS youngster Jhon Duran, according to reports.

As per The Sun, The Blues have joined Jurgen Klopp’s side in chasing the 18-year-old forward, who currently plays for Chicago Fire.

Liverpool were thought to have shown an interest in the player first, potentially looking to link the youngster up with his new international teammate Luis Diaz, who moved to Anfield earlier this year.

Duran has scored eight goals and registered five assists in the MLS this term, and currently plays alongside goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina, who joined Chelsea over the summer but remained in the US on loan.

The Colombian has been in particularly good form of late, scoring five goals and providing two assists in his last four games.

It is claimed that both Premier League sides are considering a move for the Colombian, who has recently made his senior international debut.

Klopp is keen to add Duran to his squad

The teenager made his debut in a 4-1 win over Guatemala at the end of September, and also featured in Colombia’s 3-2 victory against Mexico a few days later.

The report suggests that Duran could be available for as little as £10 million initially, although a deal may have to include potential add-ons.

Duran only joined the American side in January, signing from Colombian side Envigado for around £1 million.

The Blues have reportedly had scouts watching the player in action and are now said to be interested in agreeing a deal.

Chelsea have signed a number of young stars since Todd Boehly took charge of the club, with the likes of Omari Hutchinson, Carney Chukwuemeka and Slonina all making the move to Stamford Bridge.

Duran is a versatile attacker who can play out wide or through the middle, which would possibly make him an even more attractive proposition to potential suitors.
