Chelsea are trying to sign Napoli striker Dries Mertens, according to reports.

The Belgium international’s contract expires in the summer, meaning the Italian side will have to sell over the next few days if they are to receive a fee.

And Di Marzio journalist Francesco Porzio has tweeted that the Serie A giants could cash in on the 32-year-old as they are reportedly in talks with Chelsea.

Blues boss Frank Lampard is keen to add to his attacking ranks having relied heavily on Tammy Abraham for goals.

Abraham has been on fire in front of goal for Chelsea.

Despite being in his 30s, Mertens has been one of the most prolific forwards in Europe over the past few seasons.

This term the former PSV man has netted 84 goals over the past three-and-a-half seasons for the Naples based club.

Mertens, who is claimed is on an affordable £120,000 per week, would also add experience to a Chelsea squad which is, this season, laced with a host of young talents.
