An improving Chelsea host West Brom looking to extend an unbeaten run that has been in place since the arrival of Guus Hiddink.
The Blues’ last league defeat was the 2-1 reverse at Leicester which turned out to be Jose Mourinho’s final match in charge; two wins and two draws under Hiddink since then have pulled the Premier League champions away from the drop zone.
Numerous players, including the likes of Diego Costa, Oscar and Cesc Fabregas, look revitalised under the new regime and a European push cannot be ruled out; they are currently 10 points off Manchester United in fifth with 18 games still to play.
However, their home record this season so far means that Stamford Bridge is no longer the feared fortress it once was; they have lost four times in front of their own fans in this campaign to date.
West Brom travel to West London on the back of consecutive league wins which have put clear breathing space between Tony Pulis’ side and the bottom three.
The Baggies have won three, drawn three and lost three of their away games so far this season. It is a neatly symmetrical record, however goals have been harder to come by on the road; only Newcastle have scored less than the West Midlands outfit’s six goals on their travels.
Saido Berahino netted for Albion at the weekend as they were held to a draw by Championship side Bristol City in the FA Cup, but the striker’s future looks set to be away from the Hawthorns; the saga is a side-issue that Pulis could do without as he aims to further cement his side’s place in the Premier League.
Diego Costa and Loic Remy have overcome injury and will be available, but they will definitely be without Eden Hazard for the midweek fixture. Radamel Falcao will also be absent, and the club are set to make a decision this month on whether to cancel the Colombian’s loan after his lack of game time.
Victor Anichebe and Jonas Olsson are the only doubts for the visitors, who otherwise go into the match at Stamford Bridge with a clean bill of health.
