Brighton and Hove Albion have completed the signing of Levi Colwill on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.

The deal was announced on Twitter and follows news of Marc Cucurella moving in the opposite direction on a six-year deal.

Colwill, 19, is highly rated at Chelsea and it is understood that Thomas Tuchel was keen to avoid letting the player leave permanently.

A loan move to a competitive Premier League side is a much better option for the Blues, and Colwill will expect to be given plenty of opportunities over the course of the upcoming season.

Colwill will spend the 2022/23 campaign on the south coast

The teenager spent last season on loan with Championship side Huddersfield Town and played an instrumental role in the Terriers’ run to the play-off final.

He was expected to remain at Stamford Bridge for the upcoming season, but it appears that Chelsea may have offered him to Brighton on loan as a way of persuading them to part with Cucurella.

There is no option or obligation to buy clause included in the deal.
