Chelsea are reportedly mulling over making a surprise move for French goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, according to transfermarketweb.com.

The Premier League champions, who finished seven points clear of runners-up Tottenham Hotspur in the English top-flight last term, have been linked with signing the Paris Saint-Germain shot stopper as back up for No.1 Thibaut Courtois ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

The 24-year-old, who is a former France Under-21 international, kept 13 clean sheets in 27 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 giants last season.

Areola, who has been loaned out to the likes of Lens, Bastia and Villarreal previously, is battling fellow ‘keeper Kevin Trapp for the number one jersey at the Parc des Princes.

However, the report suggests The Blues are keeping tabs on the PSG star, alongside La Liga outfit Valencia and Serie A side Napoli, despite already luring Willy Caballero to Stamford Bridge this summer on a free transfer, following his release from Manchester City.
