Chelsea’s dilemma over the future of Romelu Lukaku finally looks to be nearing a conclusion, with Inter Milan reportedly ‘confident’ of agreeing a deal to sign the player.

The Belgian rejoined Chelsea from Inter last summer but, after an uninspiring season in which he admitted his desire to return to Italy, he looks now to have had his wish granted.

As per Sky Sports, the Serie A club are confident of signing the striker on a loan deal in the coming weeks.

The report claims that Chelsea are demanding a 10 million euro loan fee, while the Italian side are offering just half of that.

Despite the gulf between the two clubs’ valuations, it appears that talks are progressing and a deal could be agreed soon.

Lukaku enjoyed one of the most prolific spells of his career during his time in Italy

Lukaku enjoyed huge success during his spell with Inter, winning the top flight title during the 2020/21 campaign, and scoring a total of 64 goals in 95 games for the club.

That form prompted Chelsea to spend just under £100 million on a player that they had sold for a little over £30 million just seven years earlier, but the Belgium international’s return to England didn’t go as planned.

The 29-year-old scored just eight Premier League goals last term, and found himself on the bench for large parts of the season.

Lukaku’s case wasn’t helped by an interview he did with Italian media last year, during which he admitted his desire to return to Italy and spoke ill of Thomas Tuchel’s style.

Inter are currently unable to sign the player permanently, though, meaning that a loan deal is the only option to suit all parties.
