Chelsea produced arguably their best display of the season so far to beat Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Wednesday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were booed off the pitch after losing 4-2 to Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, but the Blues responded with a comfortable 3-0 win over the Villans to set up a fifth round tie against Leeds United.

Conor Gallagher put the visitors ahead early on at Villa Park, before Nicolas Jackson headed in a second on his return from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Enzo Fernandez then produced a stunning free-kick in the second half to cement Chelsea’s victory and book a place in round five of the competition.

The result was much needed for Pochettino, who has underwhelmed since taking charge in SW6.

According to 90min, Chelsea are set to review the Argentine’s position at the end of the current campaign.

Pochettino’s position is set to be reviewed at the end of the current season

Pochettino arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer following the departure of interim manager Frank Lampard, who had himself succeeded Graham Potter after a disastrous spell in charge.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss’ tenure at Chelsea started positively with a draw against Liverpool, but the Blues have won just nine of their 23 league games so far and sit 11th in the top flight table at present.

It is claimed that those in charge of the West London club had always planned to review the manager’s position at the end of his first season at the helm.

In total, the Blues have won 16 of their 32 games across all competitions so far this term, including a penalty shoot-out victory over Newcastle United on their run to the Carabao Cup final.

If Pochettino can mastermind victory over Liverpool in the final at Wembley, he may improve his chances of remaining in his post beyond this summer.
