The defensive frailties that haunted Liverpool for parts of last season seem to have been left firmly in the past, with the return of Virgil Van Dijk and impressive form of Joel Matip ensuring the Reds look back to their defensive best.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have kept four clean sheets in seven games so far this season, and their defensive record is bettered only by Chelsea, Manchester City and Brighton.

Despite his side’s improvement at the back, it appears that Klopp is still keen on recruiting a new defender, with one man in particular on his radar.

As per Fantacalcio via TEAMTalk, Torino defender Gleison Bremer remains a target of the Reds, having initially been linked with the club when both Van Dijk and Joe Gomez suffered long-term injuries last season.

The Brazilian has impressed in Serie A and is apparently unwilling to extend his current deal with the Italian side, which is due to expire in 2023.

It is also reported, however, that Liverpool are joined by Premier League rivals Manchester United and Manchester City in their pursuit of the 24-year-old.

It is claimed that there are five clubs circling for Bremer at present, but Liverpool are believed to be top of the list and in prime position to sign the player, despite moving for both Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies last January.

The Brazilian defender could represent a perfect squad player to provide competition for places for any of the three Premier League sides that are rumoured to be interested.

With three Premier League sides among the handful of clubs interested in Bremer, there could be a big battle to lure the player away from Turin in January.
