Chelsea have already been in contact with Athletic Bilbao about signing versatile midfielder Oscar de Marcos.

The 27-year-old is likely attracting interest from Chelsea boss Conte because of his ability to play at full-back, which is an area that the Blues have issues due to the decline of Branislav Ivanovic.

Ivanovic’s contract expires at the end of the season, and Conte may see de Marcos as the perfect replacement for the Serb should he end his eight-year stay in South-West London come May.

Although de Marcos won’t come cheap, he could be exactly what Chelsea need to solidify the defence, and in turn resurrect their title challenge.
