Both the Reds and their Premier League rivals Arsenal have sent scouts to watch 27-year-old forward Leonardo Pavoletti this season, and they would probably have been impressed with what they saw.

The Genoa forward has netted twice in Serie A this season – a brace against bottom side Crotone in August – and was rewarded with his decent form with a call-up to the Italy squad for their World Cup qualifiers last month.

With 23 goals in 40 appearances for the Italian side, his firepower is sure to benefit Klopp’s Liverpool if they can get him through the door in January.
