London rivals Crystal Palace and West Ham are eyeing up a summer move for Inter Milan defender Davide Santon, according to Tutto Mercato Web (via The Croydon Advertiser).

The 26-year-old returned to the San Siro in 2015 four years after leaving the club for Newcastle, but has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth at the club, earning just 35 appearances in the last two-and-a-half seasons.

And with just 11 Serie A starts this term, and only one in their ill-fated Europa League campaign, it doesn’t appear as though the full-back has much of a future in Milan, and as a result Premier League duo Palace and West Ham are reportedly considering a move for him this summer.

The Eagles, currently managerless following the resignation of Sam Allardyce last month, will have to strengthen in the upcoming transfer window to avoid being embroiled in another relegation scrap next time round, and having conceded 63 times in the league overall, the defensive ranks clearly need bolstering.

As does the backline at the London Stadium, with Slaven Bilic’s men finishing four points and three places better off than Palace, but conceding one more than the Eagles to underline their need for defensive reinforcements.

English football fans will likely remember Santon from his decent spell at Newcastle between 2011 and 2015, playing 23 times as Alan Pardew’s side finished fifth in the 2011/12 campaign, and with European experience in recent times, he could be a very shrewd signing for either Palace or West Ham this summer.
