Ahead of their trip to Watford on Sunday, Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has revealed that he was keen to sign Hornets skipper Troy Deeney in the summer.
The 27-year-old has attracted the interest of a number of clubs after striking 20 goals in each of the last three seasons.
But after firing the Hertfordshire club to promotion last term, Watford were able to keep hold of their talisman.
Pardew said: “I’m a big fan of Troy, I tried to sign him in the past.
“I made a move for him. Him and Odion Ighalo up front are as good as any pair at the moment so we need to be ready for that, and we need to find a way to score at Vicarage Road.”
