Premier League outfit West Ham face a battle with fellow Londoners Crystal Palace to land Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, according to The Daily Mirror.

The 20-year-old struggled for gametime under new City boss Pep Guardiola last season, earning just five Premier League starts and only three appearances in their Champions League run to the last 16.

And although he still scored seven times in all competitions for the Citizens, he’s highly unlikely to get ahead of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus in the striking pecking order, and that has attracted interest from fellow Premier League side West Ham.

Slaven Bilic’s men have been linked with a move for the Nigeria international for a while, and they now reportedly look set to face competition from managerless Crystal Palace for the 20-year-old’s signature.

The Eagles were embroiled in a relegation scrap for much of the campaign before former Hammers chief Sam Allardyce led them to safety, before resigning at the end of the season.

Yet they won’t want a repeat of last term’s close call with relegation next time round, and given that Christian Benteke scored 15 of their 50 league goals, and no other striker netted more than twice, further reinforcements are needed to pull the club away from another relegation scrap.

West Ham will also want drastic improvement next season, with their forward options also letting them down, yet they now know that they will have to fend off Palace to land the £8.5 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) this summer.
