Crystal Palace are reportedly set to beat Celtic and Rangers to the signing of young Ballymena striker Matthew Shevlin.

The Eagles have already had a bid turned down for the 16-year-old, but are expected to return with an improved offer as they look to ward off interest from the Scottish giants.

The ‘A’ level student had a trial with the side from South London last month and impressed, but his parent club are determined to get the best deal for themselves and the player.

Shevlin, who has already represented Northern Ireland’s Under-17 team, would link up with Palace’s development squad if he completed a move to Selhurst Park.
