Sunderland manager David Moyes has confirmed that he will remain manager of the club despite their relegation from the Premier League, according to Sky Sports.

The 54-year-old has overseen a disastrous campaign at the Stadium of Light which resulted in their relegation to the Championship last weekend after losing 1-0 at home to Bournemouth, a result which leaves them 13 points adrift of safety with just four games to go.

The former Manchester United and Everton boss refused to comment on his future in the immediate aftermath of their relegation, but in his pre-match press conference the morning, Moyes has confirmed that he’ll manage the Black Cats next season.

He said, when asked if he’ll be Sunderland manager next term: ‘Yes.

‘We have to work, we have to find a way to get things correct. We will look to see what we can do.’

Moyes took over from Sam Allardyce in the summer following the Blacks Cats’ great escape under the now-Crystal Palace boss, yet this season proved one step too far for the North East club, with just five wins from 34 league matches nowhere near what is required to stay in the division.

There has been growing unrest among Sunderland supporters in recent weeks aimed at manager Moyes, but it will be he who leads the club into the second tier next term as they seek, like their North East rivals Newcastle have done, an immediate return to the top-flight.

The Black Cats still have four Premier League matches left to restore some pride, starting with a trip to 17th place Hull on Saturday.
