This summer will be one of significant change at Manchester City, with instrumental midfielder Kevin De Bruyne set to leave the club.

The Citizens announced on Friday that the Belgian is set to bring an end to his decade-long spell at The Etihad, with his contract set to expire this summer.

De Bruyne, 33, joined City from German side Wolfsburg in 2015 and has since played 413 times for the club across all competitions, scoring 106 times and registering 174 assists.

The midfielder has also won no fewer than 18 trophies during his time in Manchester, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Since news broke of his impending departure, speculation has been rife surrounding De Bruyne’s next move.

It appears, however, that he isn’t likely to move to MLS side San Diego FC, according to GiveMeSport.

De Bruyne will bring an end to his 10-year spell at Manchester City this summer

De Bruyne has been heavily linked with a move to the newly formed club in recent months, but the report claims that San Diego aren’t set to pursue a move for the player after exploratory talks.

It is claimed that, while the Belgian wouldn’t demand a salary that would put him on a par with the league’s highest paid player, Lionel Messi, his demands would put him among the division’s top earners.

The MLS side have therefore decided against a potential move for De Bruyne, the report claims, although it remains to be seen where he will end up.

Initially, San Diego has the player on their ‘discovery rights’ list, which is a policy that restricts more than one MLS side from negotiating for the same player.

Since the Californian side removed De Bruyne from their list, another unnamed MLS side have added him to theirs, the report claims.
