Derby County have reportedly turned down a £6.5 million bid from Championship rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers for striker Chris Martin, according to the Derby Telegraph.

Wolves, who were taken over by the Fosun Group earlier this summer, have already signed five players during the transfer window and with a large transfer budget at their disposal, they are expected to add a number of new faces before it closes at the end of the month.

New boss Walter Zenga is keen to bring in a striker but has seen his initial offer for the 27-year-old, who was named on the substitutes’ bench for the Rams’ first Championship season against Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend, but started their League Cup fixture against Grimsby in midweek.

Martin, who is a Scotland international, has made 137 appearances in all competitions for Derby since joining them on a permanent deal from Norwich City in 2013, scoring 60 goals.
