Middlesbrough have agreed a deal to sign United States international goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

The newly promoted Premier League side, who host Stoke City at the Riverside Stadium on the opening day of the new 2016/17 English top-flight campaign on August 13, have landed the Aston Villa shot stopper on a two-year deal.

The 31-year-old, who has 50 international caps for his country, kept just four clean sheets in 34 appearances in all competitions for Villa before their relegation to the Football League Championship back in May.

Guzan, who becomes Boro boss Aitor Karanka’s eighth senior signing of the summer ahead of the club’s return to the Premier League, spent seven campaigns at Villa Park – racking up over 170 appearances for the Midlands outfit.

The American ‘keeper featured in every game for Jurgen Klinsmann’s USA squad in the summer as they reached the Copa America semi-finals.

Guzan will compete with fellow shot stoppers Dimitrios Konstantopoulous, Victor Valdes and Tomas Mejias for the number one jersey at Middlesbrough this forthcoming season.
