With the January transfer window opening as we pass the start of a new year, speculation is building as to who Newcastle United will target in their first window of the post-Mike Ashley era.

The club’s £300 million takeover by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund prompted huge excitement amongst Magpies supporters, with a host of huge names linked to the club in the weeks since.

Now, it appears that one player in particular could become the club’s first big money signing.

As per Rudy Galetti, the Magpies have prepared a ‘monster contract offer’ for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele.

The Italian journalist took to Twitter to reveal details of the club’s audacious offer, which could make Dembele the highest paid player in the club’s history.

Dembele has reportedly received a lucrative offer from Newcastle United

Dembele has endured a difficult time in Catalunya having suffered a number of long-term injuries, and the Frenchman could leave Barcelona for free when his contract expires in the summer.

Newcastle are reportedly targeting candidates in a number of positions in January as they look to bolster their squad and ensure top flight survival.

Dembele would add much-needed firepower to Newcastle’s front line, with Callum Wilson the only player to have reached the five-goal mark this season.

Dembele, meanwhile, has scored 30 goals and provided 23 assists in 126 games for the Spanish side, since joining for a fee of £121.5 million from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
