Eddie Howe was finally confirmed as Newcastle United’s new manager on Monday.

The ex-Bournemouth boss, who replaces Steve Bruce, has signed a contract until the summer of 2024 at St. James’ Park.

Despite having significant financial backing following October’s takeover by a Saudi-led consortium last month, Howe has a real battle on his hands to keep the club in the Premier League.

The Magpies currently sit 19th in the table with no wins and five points from their opening 11 matches, leaving them five points adrift of safety.

Although the new manager will be planning for his first game in charge against Brentford on November 20th, it’s also reported that he’s given the club’s board a five-man transfer wishlist for January.

According to The Sun, the 43-year-old has his sights set on signing Jesse Lingard, Toni Kroos, Tyrone Mings, Niklas Sule and Donny van de Beek.

Manchester United duo Lingard and Van de Beek have had limited opportunities at Old Trafford, despite the Red Devils’ struggles this term.

Van de Beek has payed just 154 minutes for Man Utd this season.

Real Madrid ace Kroos could prove a tougher signing to get done considering he’s still playing regularly and is said to want to end his career with the Spanish club.

Bayern Munich defender Sule is thought to be ‘interested’ in the journey Newcastle are about to embark on, while Aston Villa captain Mings worked alongside Howe at Bournemouth.

Despite having funds to splash, the Toon Army will have an easier task of persuading players to join them if they can get themselves up the table between now and January.

With 24 goals conceded in 11 matches, it’s clear the area Howe will have to get straight to work on in order to help the side achieve that.
