Edinson Cavani ‘offered’ to Barcelona as Cristiano could wear the number seven shirt, according to Spanish news outlet El Mundo Deportivo.

Last Friday was a whirlwind of emotions for Manchester United fans all over the world. It seemed that their hero Cristiano Ronaldo was destined to dawn the Manchester City jersey, but at the final hour it was announced he would be rejoining the Red Devils.

The transfer has been seen as a huge boost for the club, both on and off the pitch and rightly so. However, there are other knock-on affects of the deal which have not been discussed.

Firstly, on the field, Ronaldo is likely to play in the main striker role as his style of play has certainly changed since he left Man United. This may not be the best of news for United’s marksmen Cavani who could see his place in the team lost, especially as a regular starter.

Ronaldo in his first stint as a Manchester united player.

However, Cavani also wears the famous number seven shirt. Reports have suggested the club have made a formal application to the Premier League to swap Cavani’s number and allow Ronaldo to wear the number seven jersey.

Some people may see this act as quite disrespectful on Cavani’s behalf, but sadly the hierarchy at the Red Devils will know the commercial success Ronaldo is likely to bring and even more so when wearing the famous number seven shirt.

Today could see the situation come to boiling point, as reports in Spain suggest the Colombian has been ‘offered’ to Barcelona and a possible transfer could now be on the cards.

A story definitely worth following as the days progresses.
