Wigan, Rotherham and Cardiff have made enquiries about taking Newcastle’s Rob Elliot on loan.

According to a report in the Daily Mail the keeper is keen to get out on loan after recovering from a nine month injury absence that robbed him of a place in Ireland’s Euro 2016 squad.

Martin O’Neill is keen to get Elliot back involved in the international scene but won’t consider the 30-year-old if he’s not getting first team football.

Despite Newcastle being relegated last season Elliot was the club’s player of the year but now finds himself as third choice keeper behind Karl Darlow and Matz Sels.

Rafa Benitez is sympathetic to Elliot’s need but wants to have three keeper’s competing for one place in his side with the only potential solution being the return of Tim Krul from an ill-fated spell on loan to Ajax where he has only managed a handful of reserve outings.
