Jim White has revealed that one member of England’s squad at Euro 2016 this summer called his agent to try and wriggle out of the major tournament.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live Sport on Thursday night, the Daily Telegraph journalist explained one player from Roy Hodgson’s group phoned his representative and said, “can you get me out of this?”.

It is needless to say, the Three Lions suffered another disappointing major tournament campaign in France, with England crashing out to minnows Iceland in the Round of 16, before they eventually lost 5-2 to the hosts in the quarter-finals.

This summer’s European Championships also spelled the end of Hodgson’s reign as national team coach, with former Newcastle United and Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce eventually landing his “dream job” in July, only to last one game following a football scandal investigation ran by the Daily Telegraph.

Nowadays, England Under-21 boss Gareth Southgate is in charge of the senior side on an interim basis, with the Three Lions facing rivals Scotland at Wembley tonight.
