England international Micah Richards is set to leave rock-bottom Premier League outfit Aston Villa this summer, according to The Telegraph.

The 27-year-old, who has 13 international caps for the Three Lions, has scored two goals and provided one assist in 24 appearances in all competitions as captain of the English top-flight club so far this season.

However Richards; who signed a four-year deal at Villa Park following his free transfer from Manchester City back in June 2015, is thought to have a release clause inserted into his contract, meaning he can leave the club for a measly £5m.

The centre-half is the most likely Villa player to be snapped up by any fellow Premier League suitors this summer as Remi Garde’s side continue to slide towards relegation into the Championship next term.

The report suggests that Sunderland, who were interested in the England international back in January, could reignite their interest in Richards this summer if they manage to preserve their own Premier League status come May.
